I'm prepping for a trek into the Yosemite backcountry. It's the first trip I've done in a long time and it's required a lot of gear upgrades.

For starters, I've migrated to a GoLite Quest 65L pack. The goal in this was to reduce pack weight to a base weight that is much closer to 10 lbs. Quite frankly, the 65L pack is still too big, but I need something that can accomodate a bear canister and this seems to be a pretty good fit.

Another primary piece of gear that I've replaced is my sleeping bag. In the past I've used a 30 degree mummy-style bag, but I've decided to move towards a quilt. After a lot of research (and trying to find the best option for my wallet) I settled on a 30 degree Revelation-X down quilt from Enlightened Equipment. I can't tell you how excited I was about this purchase and I was like a little kid waiting for it to come in the mail. It did finally come and I'm very pleased with how it was built. I'll be putting it to use in less than a week.
